Finally seeing the task of filling the archives with canon abilities for the daunting task it is, I've decided to shift NRRP into a slightly new direction that will speed up the process of opening the site as well as allow for more fun and creativity while still maintaining a sense of balance, I hope. The coming changes will be made to the Guidebook over the next week or so but I will provide a brief outline so that you can know what to expect as well as prepare for the transition. These changes are meant to be a shortcut but are not a sign of laziness as I feel (read: hope) they will still function just as well as what we had going already.
\The major change will be made to the technique system. Individual jutsu will no longer be listed and given a their own properties. Instead, a freeform technique system will be implemented to expedite the process of opening the site as well as avoiding bogging down the RPer and promoting freedom and creativity to play the character you want. Characters will still retain ten slots with which to fill with releases, taijutsu styles, skills, clans, and the like, but individual techniques will be a thing of the past, for the most part. Common/essential techniques - Doujutsu, Kinjutsu, common jutsu of a style/clan/skill - will still be listed in the appropriate template for the ability, but in a shortened version, briefly stating their rank and effects. But for the most part, as long as a character can logically perform the technique, they can use it. the Naruto Wiki will be used as the official reference for any canon techniques, save for the ones we post ourselves which will include kinjutsu, techniques we wish to take creative freedom with, other powerful techniques, and customs - both user created and staff created. Individual jutsu your character uses frequently can be listed in your profile with the description of their skill with the style but you do not have to list every technique they can perform, as long as it belongs to a style your character knows, is within your level of skill as well as area of expertise (such as making a character who only uses Raiton to channel it through their sword suddenly calling down and S-ranked bolt of lightning from the sky).
Many other systems will have revisions made to them as well to accompany this new concept. The styles a character chooses to fill their slots with will now have their own letter rank from D-S, indicating the strength of techniques a character may perform in that given field. Advancing in rank is as simple as expending EXP which will be earned the same way as before.
Chakra will remain partly the same with the revision that each rank of jutsu now costs a flat rate of chakra unless stated otherwise in a posted technique.
The templates for characters, techniques, bloodlines, skills, and anything else that has techniques will change appropriately.
Check back at this thread frequently for updates. I'll post the changes as I add them.
UPDATE 1: The Slot system has been updated to "Techniques and Slots", which gives a more detailed description of what to expect primarily from this change.
A small revision has been made to the Styles system, detailing the concept of selfish techniques.
UPDATE 2: The Technique and Slot topic has been edited slightly to explain a little more about how the freeform techniques work as well as adding a clause about staff assistance in case the system is abused.
Stats have been edited, changing the rule about stats exceeding 20 slightly.
Perks have been edited slightly.
Chakra has been edited to include a cost>rank chart.
EXP has been edited to mention mastery ranks and include a proper pricing list.
Combat now provides a (possibly redundant) mention of the freeform technique system in different wording, hopefully making this as clear as possible by now. If not, I feel you'll all begin to get the hang of it when I start posting trees.
Phase two of the revamp has been initiated. Templates will now be updated to accommodate the new systems.
UPDATE 3: Phase two has been completed. Templates are finished. All that remains is to post up individual trees which adhere to the new systems.
