The slot system is NRRP's way of promoting character creativity while providing a means of balance and fairness. A slot is, in a sense, a source of power or an entire tree of jutsu. Every clan, kekkei genkai, skill, profession, fighting style, and release take a slot. As ijutsu, fuuinjutsu, puppetry, and genjutsu do not have individual sub-styles as ninjutsu, taijutsu, and bukijutsu do, these styles automatically take up a slot as well to remain fair while basic ninjutsu, taijutsu, and bukijutsu do not take a slot, but should still be listed to show a character's proficiency. Every character has a total of ten slots to use and there is no limit to how many of these slots a character may begin with filled as long as they have the EXP to do so. To fill a slot, one must only meet the requirements of the tree they wish to learn and purchase a single at least the first rank (D-rank) of the style. Each rank is purchased with EXP and a rank may not be skipped. A character's rank in a specific style shows their proficiency with the ability and limits the rank of techniques they may use within a style. - D-rank (100 EXP) - Just above basic techniques in a style. These characters have just begun to practice this ability, whether it be a taijutsu style or an innate ability they were born with. Techniques of this rank cost a lows worth of chakra to use and are small things such as a quick sword combo or a small projectile made of water.
- C-rank (200 EXP) - The shinobi's skill with the given ability is considered average. Techniques cost a mids worth of chakra and are slightly complex, such as charging a shuriken with electricity or breathing fire.
- B-rank (300 EXP) - Now proficient with the style, the character can begin to perform the techniques that define the ability they use. Techniques cost a highs worth of chakra and can paralyze opponents or defend against melee or projectile attacks.
- A-rank (400 EXP) - Achieving this level of mastery is considered powerful with just about any ability. Techniques cost 2x highs worth of chakra and are much more magnificent feats, such as walls of fire, waves of water, and concrete, breaking punches.
- S-rank [500 EXP) - The best of the best. Techniques costs a massives worth of chakra and are the attacks of shock and awe, changing a field to an ocean, morphing one's self with the pure essence of an element, and leaving a village in shambles.
- X-rank (Rare/Unavailable for Purchase) - A rare rank of technique only available to those with a god-like level of power with a given style. X-rank techniques are few and far between and can only be used by a character with admin permission. They each have a unique cost starting at 2 massives and only increasing from there based on power. These attacks can perform unfathomable things, such as contacting the spirit realm, ripping through the fabric of time, and causing what can only be described as criminal levels of destruction. A character may only ever learn X-rank techniques for a maximum of two trees and any selfish techniques they may know.
Any given style, bloodline, skill, ability, kinjutsu, or otherwise will have its own template with a "super rad" banner image, a description of the ability, any lore or history behind the ability, a list of its capabilities and common techniques, and then a power scale which gives a reference to anyone using the ability an idea of what rank their custom techniques they choose might be to help the freeform technique concept flow smoothly and fairly. Likewise, a character will have a separate post in their template with a list of their slots, their individual mastery ranks, and then a description of their capabilities with the ability as well as commonly used techniques. Individual things such as basic taijutsu and ninjutsu (which do not cost slots), kinjutsu, and any unique/custom abilities should be added in this post as well so that we all get a good idea of what your character is capable of. For the large part however, techniques are freeform. This means that, as long as your character has the level of skill and control required to perform a certain canon jutsu, they can (as long as it is not a technique that requires permission or other). Even custom techniques can be made on the fly (hence the power scale in each ability's template). If anyone is caught abusing this system (performing feats/techniques they logically shouldn't be able to, creating overly powerful techniques, trying to pass off powerful techniques as a lower rank, ect), we ask that you report it to an administrator who will be called in to handle the situation how they see fit. They may require a rank change or an additional chakra cost for the technique or they may even ask that the technique be individually registered if its power or complexity are too great to be allowed in freeform. The Naruto Wiki should be used as the reference for any individual canon techniques we do not post on the site, such as the individual techniques for an element. The high level techniques of a style (such as Lightning Release Armor) will be posted by staff within the style's template. Note: For stat-boosting techniques, the maximum amount of stat points granted by any technique should either be listed in the power scale or should be made into individual techniques within the template.
